NAKfest 2010 – On the San Diego Bay

As NAKfest is taking place on the San Diego Bay, we are proud to say that San Diego is one of the most family friendly cities in the nation with hundreds of things to do and not enough time for it all. NAKfest will be taking place in a central location  where fun family attractions are just minutes away. We the SDSU NAKs encourage you to bring your family for a fun filled weekend, come check out our sports competitions or take your family out for a sunny day of adventure. We have taken you and your family’s needs into consideration for this 2010 NAKfest and have a few suggestions :

Sea World San Diego opened on March 21, 1964 with much success. It was the first SeaWorld park to ever open. The park features shows such as Believe, the current Shamu show and Sea Lions Live, a comedic show with sea lions and otters. Rides include Journey to Atlantis, a splashdown ride that also has characteristics of a roller coaster.Lego Land

San Diego Zoo is one of the largest and most progressive zoos in the world with over 4,000 animals of more than 800 species. It is also one of the few zoos in the world that houses the giant panda.Balboa Park, the nation’s largest urban cultural park. Home to 15 major museums.

Belmont Park is a historic theme park located in the Mission Bay area of San Diego, California. The park was developed by John D. Spreckels and opened on July 4, 1925. Located on the beach, it attracts thousands of people each year. The attractions and rides that remain from the original 1925 park include the Giant Dipper, a wooden roller coaster that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Chicano Park; The park is home to the world’s largest collection of outdoor murals (67).For the magnitude and historical significance of the murals, the park was designated an official historic site by the San Diego Historical Site Board in 1980.

Seaport Village is a shopping and dining complex overlooking the bay in San Diego, California. It houses more than 70 shops, galleries, and eateries.Seaport Village was built over Punta de los Muertos (spanish for Point of the Dead), where the Spanish expedition of 1782 buried those who had died of scurvy.

Cabrillo National Monument is located at the southern tip of the Point Loma Peninsula in San Diego, California. It commemorates the landing of Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo at San Diego Bay on September 28, 1542.

Star of India Historic Ship, built in 1863 it is the oldest ship that still sails regularly and the oldest iron hulled merchant ship still floating. The ship is both a California and United StatesNational Historic Landmark.

Gaslamp District is a 16 1/2 block historical neighborhood in downtown San Diego, California. Its main period of development began in 1867, when Alonzo Horton bought the land in hopes of creating a new city center closer to the bay, and chose 5th Avenue as its main street.


Presidio Park is a historical fort established on May 14, 1769, by Commandant Pedro Fages for Spain. It was the first permanent European settlement on the Pacific Coast. As the first of the presidios and Spanish missions in California, it was the base of operations for the Spanish colonization of California.
